Laundry and You

In this article we will cover some tips and tricks for making your laundry clean, bright and smelling fresh and yummy - all on a budget!

Making your Laundry Room clean, fresh and organized is the best way to WANT to actually spend time in there doing laundry. One thing to consider is having an inventory list of your cleaning/laundry supplies. This way you always know what you have and what you need to replenish. In previous articles I have laid out the 1 load of laundry from start to finish - daily plan. As well as the Do laundry all on one or 2 days plan. Whatever plan you use, try to make sure you get it completely finished - no leftover laundry sitting in laundry buckets waiting to be put away. Train your family to sort their laundry or at least keep their laundry in their laundry buckets.

If you are interested in a homemade version of Laundry Detergent - look no further! This recipe makes enough detergent for 96 loads

1 bar fniely grated castile soap
2 cups borax
2 cups Arm and Hammer Super Washing Soda
1 cup baking soda
30 drops essential oils

Combine ingredients in a very large container to mix. Store in a gallon sized container. Use 1 tbs for HE washers and 2 tbsp for regular machines. Use 1 tbsp oxygen bleach powder (oxyclean) per load to whiten and brighten, as desired.

Fabric Softeners:

1) Wool Dryer Balls
These can reduce the static and if you add a few drops of essential oil, they can lightly scent your laundry.

2) Vinegar
Add 1/4 cup to your fabric softener dispenser. This really fluffs and softens bedding and towels (& your other laundry too). Feel free to add a couple drops of essential oil to the vinegar, shake well and THEN add to your dispenser. This will lightly scent your laundry.

3) Scent Boosters
1-2 cups epsom salt
20-30 drops essential oils
Mason Jar

Add just 1 tbsp to your wash and wash as usual.

4) DIY Flannel mini dryer sheets
20 small rectangles of flannel or cotton fabric
20-30 drops essential oil
Mason jar

Add fabric and essential oils to jar. Mix well. Leave lid off until fabric is completely dry. (overnight) Place lid on and use as needed.

Make it a great one!
