"Fashions fade, style is eternal." Yves Saint Laurent
The ultimate purpose of being fashionable is to look good. Regardless of what's hot and what's not, some ladies who never read the hottest fashion magazines always manage to get it right. Style involves common sense; take a look at that magazine cover to the right. The spring floral trend that had everyone going crazy this spring was also trendy in *drum rolls* March 2007!
If you're not in the mood for keeping up, be in the know with the following recurring trends:
Spring Bright and Sweet
This is the season for flowers, clashing patterns, and everything in between. The shift to the spring is all about feminine styles that are eye-catching. Dresses, especially girly styles like Puffball and Fit & Flare, appear on the fashion front. The resurgence of 70s trends (flower power, Boho chic, gypsy madness) is also common as you see flare jeans, maxi dresses, and some fabulously large accessories. Espadrilles, fun wedges, and ballerina flats take the center stage. Sexy lace also comes in to take your mind off the winter months.
Colors: Go for bright, brighter, and the brightest with vivid yellow, tangerine, and honeysuckle pink.
Summer Hot and Not So Bothered
This season is all about styles that keep you comfortable and refreshed. Shorts, flowing blouses, cute tops with bow detailing, and leggings make their star appearances in the summer. Babydoll dresses, jumpsuits, off-shoulder & hip-less couture, stripes (nautical), and sheer styles show off a well earned beach body. Thong and gladiator sandals as well as flip flops reveal some serious pedicures. Metallic accessories will spice up your summer look.
Colors: White and red make it big in the summer and you can carry some candy colors from the spring too.
Fall Mellow Drama
This is the time to tone it down. Tunics, shift dresses with tights, and velvet clothes; the "it is not summer yet not winter" look is all about relaxation. Bring out the most stylish scarves for a laid back girl-next-door style and cinch longer shirt dresses at the waist for added chicness under that caftan cardigan. Light as air ballerinas are perfect with those preppy-fab plaid skirts.
Colors: Go for neutrals and earth tones to match this season's nature.
Winter Sophistication Alert
Bring out the coats, faux fur, and leopard prints. Many fashionable ladies prefer the winter and with good reason; this is the time for effortless styling. Let your inner Audrey Hepburn shine with turtleneck symmetrical dresses and black pumps. For an edgier look, try a leather jacket with a pair of jeans tucked into leather boots. Of course we can't forget the classic or embellished booties. This is a great excuse to get back to heels.
Colors: Black and white elegance, royal blue, grey, rich emerald green, and a hint of pop color in between for the added oomph.
Stylish Tip: The above seasonal styles will keep you looking great without feeling guilty about not running for the runway (pun unintended). However, the more you fall in love with fashion, the more you'll feel the need to mix it up and stay up-to-date so make sure you try new styles.
