How to Warp Text in Photoshop CS2 - Digital Art and Design

If you want to add some pizazz to your marketing ad or company logo, you can use the Warp Text feature in Photoshop^R CS2 to twist your text into any shape and then add it to your graphic. The Warp Text command in Photoshop CS2 (also known as text on a path) makes the job of distorting text easy. Let's play a little with the Warp Text feature. We will create a line of text on a transparent layer then open the Warp Text dialog box and experiment with the effects we can achieve.

Warp Text Style - Arc

Step 1. Start a new image window. Open Photoshop CS2 and click File > New to start a new image. Set the background to transparent so that you can later place this text on top of any image.

Step 2. Type your line of text. The new image window should open with a transparent layer ready for you to type on. Click on the Horizontal Type Tool and then click on the transparent background. Type your line of text.

Step 3. Warp the text. Go to the Menu bar and click on the Create Warped Text button to open the Warp Text dialog box. Your first step is to choose a warp Style from the drop-down list. I used Arc and Shell Upper for the examples.

You will notice that the controls in the dialog box are no longer grayed out. You can now experiment with the slider controls to adjust the amount of Bend and Horizontal/Vertical Distortion applied to the text. Zero percent Bend will not distort the text at all and 100 percent Bend will distort the text to the maximum. Depending to the Style of warp you are using, the Horizontal and Vertical Distortion sliders can give you some interesting effects. And don't forget to try both the Horizontal and Vertical radio buttons under the Style list.

Step 4. Save your work. Because we put the text on a transparent layer, you can save your text for later use.
