Chocolate Cake Doughnuts Recipe

Enjoy these chocolate doughnuts for breakfast. They do not take long to prepare and are baked instead of fried. The doughnuts only need 10 minutes in the oven. After baking the doughnuts you have the option of a chocolate glaze for double the chocolate or a vanilla glaze. Either way they will not disappoint.

Chocolate Cake Doughnuts Recipe
Makes 18-20 doughnuts

2 cups flour
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup granulated sugar
2 eggs
6 tablespoons butter, melted
1 cup buttermilk (or 1 cup of milk mixed with 1 tablespoon vinegar)
1 tablespoon vanilla
1/2 cup chocolate chips

1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
2. In a small mixing bowl combine the flour, cocoa powder, and baking soda and set aside.
3. In a large mixing bowl combine the sugars and eggs and beat with a hand mixer.
4. Add the buttermilk, butter, and vanilla and beat just until combined.
5. Whisk in the flour mixture 1/2 at a time.
6. Stir in the chocolate chips.
7. Grease a doughnut pan. Fill each doughnut hole cavity about 2/3 full. You can opt to fill a pastry bag or plastic food storage bag with the filling and snip of the end to fill each cavity. I chose to just spoon the batter in.
8. Bake for about 10 minutes.
9. flip onto a cooling rack. The doughnuts should just fall out. Allow them to cool before frosting or glazing.

Chocolate Glaze Recipe

1 cup of milk chocolate chips
1/3 heavy whipping cream

3. Heat the cream and chocolate chips in a small sauce pan over low heat until melted, stirring constantly.
4. Set aside to cool and allow it thicken for about 10 minutes.
5. Frost each doughnut.

Vanilla Glaze Recipe

4 tablespoons butter, softened
1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
1 tablespoon vanilla
1/4 cup hot water

1. In a mixing bowl beat the butter and powdered sugar.
2. Beat in the vanilla.
3. Add the hot water a little at a time, beating after each addition, until desired consistency.
4. Dip the top of each doughnut in the glaze.

Enjoy and sweeten the soul with chocolate!
