Bathroom Mirror Ideas

Are you tired of your bathroom mirror? Most bathrooms come with a standard issue mirror above the sink. Dual vanities often have one large sheet of glass above them, whereas singular vanities have a small stock mirror. Unfortunately, most of the time, these mirrors are pretty boring. However, there’s no need to settle for a ho-hum element. For a few hours of your time and for very little money, you can transform your mirror into a great one-of-a-kind bathroom accent.

First, let’s consider that large sheet of mirrored glass. If you’d like to give it a more classic design, create a built-in look by framing it with molding from your local home improvement store. All you have to do is cut the trim to fit, paint it in whatever color you like and then glue it directly to the glass using an adhesive such as Hard as Nails or E6000. You may need to tape the trim to the mirror temporarily while the glue is drying to prevent slippage. Then, just stand back and enjoy your newly tailored mirror.

Gluing on tile squares is another great way to outfit the edges of your mirror. Choose several colors for a more interesting look and attach them directly to the mirror. If you are feeling even more creative, create a mosaic around the edges by breaking the tiles before gluing them on and then filling in the cracks with some colored grout. You don’t have to follow a straight line with your mosaic design. Sketch a curved design directly onto the glass using a wax pencil and then just fill in with your broken tile pieces. A curved line will soften the hard edges of the mirror and give it a more interesting look. Just be careful to protect the rest of your mirror when grouting so that it doesn’t get scratched.

If molding and tile are still too bland for you, try a more whimsical effect by gluing interesting objects around the edges of your mirror. Consider wooden corner blocks, seashells, twigs, small toys, flip flops, etc. Using 3-dimensional objects will provide texture and lots of personality to your bathroom space.

Another way to customize your mirror is to make a cutout from a thin sheet of plywood that is then glued in place over the mirror. Creating a custom cutout is fun because it gives the mirror an untraditional built-in look. Consider a scallop or jagged design painted in fun colors.

You can also paint directly onto the glass. Try a pretty floral design or a lighthearted quote around the edges of the mirror.

To deal with smaller stock mirrors, apply one of the above ideas on a smaller scale or simply replace your mirror with one that has a more interesting shape. Look for a used one at yard sales or flea markets and then paint it in a color that coordinates with the rest of the room.

There you go! There’s no need to settle for a boring stock mirror in your bathroom. By using a painted effect or simply gluing interesting items around the edges of your mirror, you can have a one-of-a-kind look very easily and cheaply in no time at all.
