Dailey & Vincent Singing from the Heart

Music Commentary
Since joining together as a duo in 2008, Dailey and Vincent have been racking up a myriad of honors and awards including IBMA Entertainer of the Year and Vocal Group of the Year for 2008, 2009, and 2010. One of the amazing qualities that characterize their pairing is the beauty of their harmony. That they would produce a compilation of a cappella gospel cuts is a natural progression in their success. Their distinctive style lends itself to gospel music quite well.

Singing from the Heart represents their third release but it was conceived before the duo was formed and was six years in the making. According to the liner notes, the project was completed to benefit the Tennessee Bible College. It is given to donors to the College in appreciation of their support. Proceeds from the sale of the project are also donated to the college.

Both Jamie Dailey and Darren Vincent have deep seated roots in worship through spiritual song and profound faith. Thus, what you hear on this project is sung from the heart of belief in the Lord. This collection of songs departs from the standards that are typically heard on a bluegrass stage. The selections dig deep from southern gospel and the traditions found in the Church of Christ.

The vocals are perfectly blended across the entire selection of songs negating the need for instrumentation. The cuts most likely to be heard during one of Dailey and Vincent's shows are Don't You Want to go to Heaven, which is a recognizable tune from Bluegrass traditions, and 'Til I see You Face to Face written by Jamie Dailey and Doyle Lawson. While some of the cuts are well known gospel songs, Dailey and Vincent have put their own spin on the arrangements embracing the tunes as their own. Molly Skaggs (daughter of Ricky Skaggs and Sharon White) lends her contrasting soprano vocals to Amazing Grace for a sweet version of this old traditional southern standard.

For those who appreciate a cappella gospel music, this CD departs from the standard selections for a unique experience. As an introduction to bluegrass styled a capella Gospel this is a pleasing choice, plus your dollars would be contributing to a worthy cause.
