I love romantic movies. In The Notebook, James Garner stars with Gena Rowlands as a couple who survives the years with their love intact. What were some of the movie mistakes here?
In one scene, you see Noah and Allie on a street, with a double yellow line painted down it. The double yellow line was actually not used until the 1960s. On roads in the US, this means "do not cross". This is compared with a dashed line, which means you can cross (i.e. to pass).
Also road related and out-of-time were the parking meters that you see in one scene. While we might think of parking meters as being eternal, they are actually relatively recent. They weren't in this region of the country until around 1947.
To be a little more picky, Li'l Abner was released in November 1940. It wasn't around that summer.
What other mistakes have you spotted in The Notebook? Be sure to let us know in the forums!
