The Center for Black Women's Wellness, Inc. 2nd Annual Awards Celebration
"Be The Solution" will be the theme for The Center for Black Women's Wellness Inc 2nd Annual Awards Celebrations. The event will feature speaker Dr. Joycelyn Elders, Congressman John Lewis, prominent healthcare leaders, and a FREE Health Expo to Address the Health Needs of Atlanta's women and families. It will take place November 6-7, at the Twelve Hotel in Atlanta 's Atlantic Station. Dr. Joycelyn Elders was the First African American U.S. Surgeon General. Elders was also the first person in the state of Arkansas to become board certified in pediatric endocrinology, the sixteenth Surgeon General of the United States, and the first African American and only the second woman to head the U.S. Public Health Service.
Serving as Atlanta 's only organization committed to addressing all of the key factors impacting the poor health and wellness of black women, CBWW has impacted the lives of more than 12,000 metro Atlanta women and families through its core health and wellness services over the last 21 years.
The Awards Ceremony kicks off this two-day celebration which will feature a special Defeating the Odds Award which will honor a woman who has tirelessly served the community while striving to overcome a major health challenge of her own. Other special award presentations will be made to:
Health Trailblazer - Lisa Flowers, MD, Director of Colposcopy, Grady Memorial Hospital; Associate Professor, Emory University School of Medicine; and Medical Director, Spirit Foundation
Health Pioneer - Fleda Mask Jackson, PhD, Senior Scientist, Atlanta Regional Health Forum; Affiliated Professor, Applied Public Health, Rollins School of Public Health, Emory University
Health Advocate - Kathie McClure, "The Purple Bus Lady," founder of VoterHealthcare.org
Health Champion - Adrienne Mims, MD, MPH, Medical Director, Medicare Quality Improvement, Georgia Medical Care Foundation; Volunteer Medical Director, Center for Black Women's Wellness

"The Center for Black Women's Wellness is a place where all women can gain access to proper healthcare, regardless of socioeconomic status," says Jemea Dorsey, CBWW's Chief Executive Officer. "Proceeds from CBWW's Awards Celebration will benefit the organization's longstanding efforts to improve the health status of Atlanta 's uninsured and underserved women."
On Saturday, November 7, 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. CBWW brings the entire metro Atlanta community together for a free Women's Health Expo, a day of fun, where attendees can participate in interactive health presentations, a vendor pavilion, and activities that promote nutrition, physical activity, stress management and more. Health screenings will be provided by Piedmont Hospital and the Diabetes Association of Atlanta.
