5 Fashion Essentials You Need for Work

Being an office gal doesn’t mean that you need to dress in the same boring work attire. But working in an office does come with some fashion rules that cannot be ignored. Most offices don't allow for shoulder-bearing clothing, skirts that are too short, or tops that are too low cut. Whatever the dress code is at your work place, you can still abide by the fashion rules of the workplace while dressing your absolute best. With that said, here are some fashion essentials that every girl needs for the perfect office outfit every day.

BLAZER : This is an obvious one. The blazer and office environment go perfectly well together. To avoid looking boring or too traditional, you will want to pay attention to fit. A nicely fitted blazer with feminine lines will help accentuate the desirable hourglass figure, and a blazer at hip length flatters many different heights and body types. For a smashing office look, try a silky or satiny sleeveless top under the blazer rather than a traditional button down. To elongate your look, go for a v-neck that is not too low cut for the office. You can finish off your look with a trendy brooch or a small neck scarf.

BOOT CUT TROUSERS : You can be inspired by menswear without actually looking like one. Dress pants for women these days come in all types of styles, colors, textures, and fits. Which one should you go with? A mid-rise fit is best for most women and flatters many body types. Try a fitted, but not too tight, mid-rise pant with a slight flare for a contemporary office look. If you’re wearing a blazer, you don’t have to match the colors if you don’t want to. For example, black trousers with a crisp, white jacket can look sharp and help you avoid looking matchy matchy.

CARDIGAN : The beauty of cardigans is that you can wear it with buttons closed or let it fly open, which makes it so versatile. In basic colors, you can wear it with all types of other colors. And depending on what you wear it with, it can look very dressed up or more casual Friday style. I personally love cardigans because you can wear to work or after work, and it works well on weekends too. Look for a good fitting cardigan that isn’t too tight or too lose. You can pair it with a cami (and wear the cardigan closed) or with a looser cut top (and wear the cardigan open). On casual Friday, wear a flattering cotton top and jeans, and throw on your cardigan. These heaven-sent garments have a multitude of uses!

CAMISOLES : If you're an office girl, you'll want lots and lots of cami tops! If you tend to wear the same blazers and cardigans all the time, camisoles in different colors and necklines will help vary your look. You can also wear lower cut tops or sheer shirts with camis underneath to make your look work-appropriate. Basic camis are great, but try a few fun ones that are trimmed with lace or sequins, or ones that are multi-colored or printed. Camisoles are so great because they are definitely versatile, and you can wear it when you're not working.

Of course, there are many other items which can be essential to your work wardrobe. Whatever you're going for, make sure you play by the rules of the workplace. You can put together many outfits by combining the above four fashion items and add in a few items of your own. Have a great day at work!
