If you are pursuing or are considering pursuing an MBA, you might be thinking about what you are going to do with that MBA after graduation to take advantage of your new knowledge and degree. You made or plan to make a substantial investment of time and money, probably with the hope of furthering your career.
You might be finding that an MBA, while it will likely make you stand out from the sea of applicants when applying for jobs, might not necessarily get you an immediate promotion or specifically qualify you for a position you are after. An MBA does, however, does provide you with one of the qualifications for the many MBA Rotation Programs in large companies.
Many companies (usually larger companies) have a program where they hire recent MBA (or other graduate school program) grads into a role that is designed to develop the company’s future leaders. Most programs are 2-4 years long and consist of four or more rotations. Each rotation lasts 6-12 months and is generally in a different operational area of the company. The purpose is to take successful graduates from top MBA programs and have them learn the ropes so that they can eventually grow into top leadership positions. These rotation programs generally pay fairly well and lead to excellent positions down the road. Many of these programs require that applicants have a certain minimum GPA and require a fairly intensive interview process.
One aspect of these programs that could be a large drawback for some people is the requirement to be willing to move with each rotation. This means that, if accepted into the MBA rotation program, you would be required to move (often to a completely different area of the country or to a new country) for each rotation. This requirement is to ensure that participants in the program not only gain experience working in different functional areas but also gain experience working in the different locations that the company operates.
If you think you might be a good fit for one of these programs, just google “MBA Rotation Program” and start your journey!
