Chandra Levy

On or about April 30, 2001, Chandra Levy disappeared from Washington, D.C. where she worked as an intern for the Federal Bureau of Prisons. It wasnít until thirteenth months later, that her remains were found in Rock Creek Park in D.C. She was 21 at the time of her disappearance. During this time, Rep. Gary Condit was said to allegedly be having an affair with the young intern but he was never declared to be an official suspect by the police and di admit to the affair.

In 2004, Gary Condit sued three tabloids for stories they printed alleging him to be having an affair and his connection to the murder. He sued them for 209 million dollars and eventually settled the lawsuit and was deemed very happy with the settlement. No details were given on how much he received in the lawsuit. In his lawsuit, he claimed that the newspapers had ruined his career with the stories. He may not have been far off because in 2002, he lost a bid to regain his senate seat due to the hue and cry from the tabloid stories. This ended his sixteen year career in politics. In 2003, Conditís wife had also settled a lawsuit with the National Enquirer after suing them for 10 million dollars.

It took eight years but the police have said they are close to issuing an arrest warrant in what was one of the countryís most famous unsolved murders at the time. Ingmar Guandique, an illegal alien from El Salvador was convicted of assaulting two women in the same park that Chandra Levyís remains were found. He is currently serving time in Victorville, California for those assaults and attempted armed robbery of the two women. He is the current person of interest for the murder even though he passed a lie detector test in 2002. No one is saying if the warrant is for him or not, but he is due to be released from prison in 2011 and will be deported back to El Salvador as a criminal alien. Another inmate told officials that Guandique had told him that he did indeed kill Chandra Levy but that inmate also failed a lie detector test regarding his claim.

Chandraís parents were told that the authorities were going to make an arrest but they didnít tell them who it was that they were after. Hopefully, we will all know soon enough and her family can have closure and Gary Condit can be redeemed.
