The Punisher

If you have watched Marvel's Daredevil on Netflix then you should be familiar with the Punisher. Introduced to the television audience via Daredevil, the Punisher now has his own series. The show stars Jon Bernthal (who played Shane on the Walking Dead).

The first season of The Punisher provides the audience with Frank Castle's history. From the Daredevil series we learned that Frank's wife and kids were killed but now we get to learn about the possible reason why and also what Frank did while in the military. In addition, everyone thought that Frank was killed (again) so during this series he is believed by the world to be dead.

As usual, The Punisher is up to his vigilante ways and he is still determined to kill any and every one connected to his family's death. In the process he is befriended by a former NSA Analyst named David Lieberman who has faked his death and together they discover a huge government conspiracy. Although David's family is still alive, they believe that he is dead and David is unable to contact them for fear that it will put them in danger. As David describes in the series, he is the navigation to Frank's missile launcher. He helps to provide guidance.

Frank's previous military experience is explored and we learn that at one point he was a part of a unit that acted as guns for hire. This is a big part of the broken person that he is today.

Although The Punisher comes from the Marvel universe, he is unique from most in that he possess no super powers and he has no desire to be a hero. While we can see that there is some good in him, for the most part he is angry and tortured and constantly haunted by the memories of his deceased wife and kids.

Be prepared for lots of action as The Punisher is frequently fighting. There is also a substantial amount of blood and gore however, the show does a good job of developing The Punisher's character as well as the characters of those around him.

The first season is comprised of thirteen episodes. You can catch up on the series on Netflix.
