White Christmas Decorating Ideas

Are you dreaming of a white Christmas? An all white color scheme for the holiday is very versatile and absolutely beautiful. White is a neutral so it will go with any home or interior which means you can use it year after year, no matter what your usual decor. No more worrying if the traditional red and green will clash with your living or dining room if you decorate with white.

This theme is very easy to shop for because you are mostly going for just one color – in varying shades. This will also make it easier to stay within a budget.

White all by itself can be stark and tiring to the eye. To provide some relief, layer varying shades of whites, creams and ivories for depth and interest. Also introduce different textures, through your fabrics, paint and surfaces.

Picture a white slipcovered couch, with ivory candlewick pillows and creamy crochet throws for example. Or an eggshell painted coffee table with a tray of white candles.

Decorate your Christmas tree with white lights and gold or silver ornaments. Dress it up with strands of pearls, satiny ribbons and velvet bows. Or make it more casual with popcorn strands, paper snowflakes and angels. Cloak the packages underneath in ivory wrapping, ribbons and bows. You might even want to invest in an artificial white tree.

Hang white stockings, set out white poinsettias, and white dishes. Cover tabletops in white linens or leave bare for stark contrast.

The “shabby” vintage look of white painted flea market furniture looks very romantic with this theme. Yet, stained finishes, shiny chrome or black furniture pieces can be just as fantastic against a white backdrop.

Reflective surfaces like crystal, mirrors and glass along with shiny silver and gold add sparkle to the holiday spirit and are very complimentary to a white color scheme. There are countless ways to bring these elements into your decor. For example, set silver or mirrored trays on table tops and place some white, gold or silver candles on them. When lit, they create a stunning effect. Drape ribbons garnished with silver and gold ornaments or tinkly bells throughout the house: along fireplace mantels, stair railings or at the top of doorways and windows.

The more you layer white with gold and silver the more sparkly and stunning your home will be. Keeping to this simple white Christmas color scheme will provide you with an inexpensive decorating theme that looks great every year. And, who knows – maybe the weather will provide you with a blanket of dreamy snow outside to complement your spectacular white decor!
