Enrichment Ideas for Preschoolers

Preschoolers who are advancing quickly through their school day may need some extra intellectual stimulation. Enrichment classes are a great way to ramp up your child's education in a fun and challenging way. Many preschools offer in house enrichment, or you can look into a local enrichment center in your area. For example, Spark Family Enrichment Center in Winter Springs, Florida offers several preschool classes, ranging from Spanish to French to Science. Local music studios also offer lessons to preschool students, but they will be tailored to their shorter attention span. Here are some ideas you can look for when exploring the enrichment option for your child:

-Literature Based Activities like literacy-building "centers" based on popular children's literature or a Reader's Theater.

-Arts and Crafts - Hands-on art activities and classes are great for small muscle control and artistic expression.

-Movement and Dance - Songs that use fingerplay and body movements to engage the children are wonderful! Look for a Gymboree Music class or inquire about private music lessons.

-Language and Culture - Mini-lessons introduce children to different cultures through song, art, and other activities. Actual language lessons may be offered in Spanish, French and even Chinese!

-Theater and drama are fun for preschoolers, too. Puppetry, role playing and dramatic play are just a few of the options for these little thespians.

-Cooking classes engage children in lessons using hands on activities. Many lessons involve healthy living and cooking nutritional snacks.

-Instruments like the piano, keyboard or even the violin are great for music loving preschoolers.

-Physical activities are wonderful to build large muscle control and coordination. Great classes for this include gymnastics, ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical theater and tumbling.

-Sports and team participation are also a form of enrichment for your preschooler, so look into preschool teams, like soccer and t-ball.
