More basic candlemaking scents

Our continuing series on aromatic scents and essential oils.
There are many recovered accounts of ancient civilizations such as the, Greeks, Romans and Chinese, relied upon the immense power of essential oils to regain, increase or maintain health of the body and mind. A papyrus dating back to approximately 1555 B.C. contained directions for aromatherapy. The ancient Greek physician Dioscorides wrote a book that describes many methods still used today by aromatherapists. Arabian physician Avicenna (980-1037 A.D.) is credited with improving the distillation process, using essential oils in his practice. Indian ayurvedic medicine, which has been practiced for more than 3000 years, relies heavily on aromatic massage.


Eucalyptus Oil

Fresh camphor scent, stimulating and cooling aroma.
Used for its anti-infectious and wound healing properties. Up to 70% of airborne staph bacteria were killed when a 2% emulsion of Eucalyptus oil was used as a spray. Eucalyptus is useful for respiratory, muscular, and skin ailments.


Fennel Oil, Sweet, Organic

Sweet, mild spicy aroma
Sweet Fennel is good for cleansing the body of toxins from foods and alcohol. It is thought to be a tonic for the digestive system. Avoid if pregnant, nursing, or if you have epilepsy

Fir Needle Oil
Fresh, green forest aroma
Balsam Fir is uplifting, stimulating and grounding. It's scent is wonderful for use in a diffuser; the oil is commonly used to support breathing conditions as an expectorant. It is also a potent analgesic, helpful if used in a massage blend when applied to aching muscles and joints, especially rheumatic conditions.

Frankincense Essential Oil

A rich woody, earthy scent with a hint of citrus
Frankincense scent - it is more complex than is typical, with a deeply mysterious nuance and rich, resinous woody. It is a grounding aroma, and often used in meditation calming the mind and slowing the breathing rate.

Geranium Essential Oil -(Geranium Rose)

A richly, warm and sweet floral scent
Geranium is not replacement for real rose oil. Adding it to any rose formula to enhance the rose accents and reduce the amount of the more expensive real rose oil.

Ginger Essential Oil

Lively aroma of fresh ginger, mild and spicy
Usually added a large amount of arthritis, muscle and joint massage blends. Used for motion sickness and fighting parasites, particularly when travelling to foreign countries.

Grapefruit Essential Oil

A fresh, eye, tarty sweet, uplifting aroma of ripened grapefruit
Used for smoothing cellulite, grapefruit oils is thought to break down fats in the body. An astringent, used for acne, cleansing, and decongestion, and sluggish lymph system.

Helichrysum Essential Oil (Everlasting Oil)

A warming herb scent, mild spicy, pleasant
Helpful to regenerate, Often included in many skin formulas for wrinkle and scar reduction - effective at low concentrations, very little is needed.

Hyssop Essential Oil

Sweet medicinal, herb aroma
Hyssop is one of the most potent anti-viral essential oils. When inhaled, its aroma is very effective in loosening tightness in the chest and in relieving bronchial spasms.

Jasmine Oil

Rich, warm, deeply floral and complex aroma
Can be used alone or added to blends in small amounts; a very powerful aroma - a little goes a long way. Jasmine is an oil that brings a lightness and happy feeling. Used to enhance relationships on a spiritual level.

Juniper Berry Essential Oil

Fresh, uplifting, evergreen aroma
A lively and energetic scent, used in Chinese medicine to open the 'chi'. Used to brighten and clear any space.
