Thankfully, there's nothing scary about this Halloween Pumpkin Head recipe--it's is budget, time, and kid friendly.
Ingredients
- 1 box of vanilla wafers (crushed)
- ¾ cup grated coconut
- ¾ cup powdered sugar
- 1 can of frozen orange juice, undiluted
- Food coloring (optional)
- Place vanilla wafers in a sealed plastic bag.
- Crumble the vanilla wafers by lightly pounding on the bag, or by gently using a rolling pen back and forth over the bag.
- Mix the vanilla wafer crumbs, coconut and powdered sugar in large bowl.
- Add the undiluted frozen orange juice and mix well. Use your hands as needed.
- Make different size pumpkins heads, from all to extra large, by rolling the mixture into your hands (similar to making different size cookies).
- Add a drop or two of food coloring to individual bowls of coconut. This is optional, but is a great way to add some color to the pumpkin heads.
- Roll the orange balls in powdered sugar or into the bowls of colored coconut flakes.
Here are a few suggestions for pumpkin head decorations to get you and your kids started:
- For the eyes, nose and teeth, Halloween candy such as candy corn, life savers, skittles, etc., are the perfect ingredients.
- For the mouth, you can use thinly sliced strips of a fruit roll up or similar snack.
- Your child can also make ghosts out of this recipe. Simply shape the mixture into a ghost shape, and roll it into a bowl of powdered sugar. Again, let your child be creative by adding ingredients from your refrigerator, freezer, and pantry.
