The first Callaway Heavenwood that I purchased at our Pro shop was a Heavenwood Hybrid number three. I was looking for a different club that would help me out of the rough, sand and be easier to handle than my long irons. Our Pro Shop had this Heavenwood and I thought would be an answer to my problem. After using this club I was not satisfied as it seemed too heavy and hard to control. I was disappointed and just left it in my bag un-used for many months.
When I had my golf lesson from our new gal, who is a senior on a college golf team looked over this club she told me it was a man’s club. I was surprised at that I assumed it was the right club for me. She said the shaft was too stiff even though it was graphic but weighted for a man’s swing.
After my lesson I went to the Pro Shop and found they had a Big Bertha Heavenwood #3 with a 20 degree loft that was meant for a woman golfer. I took no time to purchase that club as felt maybe I could sell the one I had. I advertised on the men’s posting board but had no takers. Since my two golfing sons would be coming for a weekend I thought I should let them try it out. As it happened my son used it and thought it felt real good, so he got a little gift of a new club in his bag. This was fine as he and his wife were the ones that game me the Heavenwood #5 for Christmas. It went to a good home.
As for my using the new Heavenwood #3 it has been great. I found it very useful as I used it a few times out of fairway sand traps. It also worked great out of the rough but found it best to use just off the fairway for long straight shots. I find I am using it more often than my #5 wood or the #4 or #5 irons. This club is well balanced and light weight for a controlled swing. I found I can use it to tee off on some of our long par three holes, works great.
Since acquiring these two new Callaway Heavenwoods I am reaching for these clubs more often and my other woods and irons stay in the bag. I have not hit my #9 wood for a long time as I find the #5 Heavenwood is just right to get over those water shots. I still will use my #3 and #5 woods for long fairway shots but am going to try that #3 Heavenwood more often as I get used to the feel of this club.
I have been checking the Callaway advertisements in the Golf for Women magazine and they show a line of five Big Bertha Heavenwood Hybrids from the #3 to the #7. I am now thinking that maybe that #7 may be just the club I could use as it has a 32 degree loft and that surely would be a great club to hit those high drop shots over water to a green. With all the new development in golfing equipment it all will help to improve your game. I have been sold on the Callaway Great Big Bertha clubs as I try to improve my golf game. All this adds enjoyment to the game and keeps you exercised and enjoying a long life.
