Passover Crafts

Special thanks to Jase for all of his help and information with this article.

Passover is the celebration of the release of the Jewish people from slavery in Egypt. The 10th plague, when G-d killed the first born only passing over those who had painted their door with lambs blood.

Elijah’s Cup

You will need:
-1 Wine glass
-Aluminum Foil
-Jewels (I used a combination of plastic stones and packaged jewels)
-Glue
-Water
-Small bowl
-Paint Brush
-Acrylic sealant

Wad and unwad the aluminum foil, this will give the glass texture.

Take and tear the aluminum foil into small pieces that are about 1 inch in size.

When you have a small pile of aluminum foil pieces and your wine glass mix some glue and water in the bowl. I used 3 parts glue to 1 part water.

You are going to want to decoupage the pieces of aluminum foil onto the glass. To do this you are going to want to dip your brush into the glue mixture and ‘paint’ a small part of the glass.

Put the pieces of aluminum foil onto the glass. For the first layer you will want to make the pieces are not overlapping. Repeat until you have gone all around the glass. Allow to dry.

For the second layer overlap the pieces of aluminum foil. Completely cover the glass and allow to dry.

Next glue the jewels to the glass randomly. Allow your glass to completely dry.

Using your paint brush cover the entire glass with the glue/water mixture. Allow to dry and repeat 2-3 times.

Finally, cover with an acrylic sealant and allow to dry.

Matzo
Matzo is a flat bread that is not allowed to rise before baking. For Passover only water and flour is used.

You will need
-Whole Wheat Flour (make sure it is not self rising flour)
-Water
-Cookie Sheet

Mix 1 cup whole wheat flour and 3/4 cup water together in a mixing bowl.

An ADULT should preheat the oven (350) or light the grill.

Flour your hands and the cookie sheet (if using one)

Take a medium sized ball of dough and flatten it out on the cookie sheet you will want it to be less then a half an inch in thickness on the cookie sheet.

I cooked my Matzo on the grill and I used an old cookie sheet. If you do not wish to use an old cookie sheet try using a specialty item designed specifically for use on a grill. Or you can stick with the oven.

Bake in the oven for 10-12 minutes turning over half way though.

On the grill, cook with lid closed for about 8-10 minutes. Turn the bread over and cook for another 4-8 minutes.

For a crispier bread add more flour and roll out thinner. This will make the bread similar to a cracker.
