More actresses are taking up the game of golf and the latest news in the Golf For Women magazine is Jane Seymour from Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman wants to improve her game and break 90. There was a golf tournament called the Northern Rock All-Star Cup with celebrities from America playing against Europeans. Since Jane has become a U. S. Citizen she decided to play with her new country. She knew this event would draw many spectators so she was determined to improver her game.
Jane lives with her husband James Keach and they are members of the Sherwood Country Club in Thousand Oaks, California. This course has two Jack Nicklaus layouts but the full course was in renovation so she spent two months on the par-3 layout to prepare herself for the All-Star Cup. She said the course is so precise and small that you can get in all kinds of trouble is you don’t hit it straight. She also got very good at chipping and putting and it paid off.
This All-Star Cup was played in the Ryder Cup format, match play, best ball, alternate shot with each side with eleven celebrities. The European side had a British TV star Bruce Forsyth and model Jodie Kidd while the American side had Kenny G, Meat Loaf, Alice Cooper and Jane. The Americans lost but Jane never gave up as her partner put the ball in a bunker and she thought she would never get it out. With all the camera and huge crowds she got in the sand and could not even see the flag. She swung and then all she heard was the crowd roaring and she jumped up to see the ball slowly roll in the hole as the crowd went crazy. She remarked it was one of the greatest days of her life.
It was interesting to read about Jane as she explains when she plays golf she never keeps score as she has her own system. She says when she hits the ball and it goes where she intended she gives herself a star. That way when she finishes she can look back and see that she had shots she was proud of. Jane was born in England and wanted to be a dancer but a knee injury at 17 years of age changed that and she became an actress.
Her personal life was not always steadfast as she had been married three times until she met James Keach who was directing Sunstroke for the USA Network. James invited her to play golf as he was an avid golfer. She became interested in the game and loves to play with the family. She had two children with her third husband and now has twins with James Keach and they live in St. Catherines Court located in Bath, England.
She has many side interests as she launched in 2003 a Jane Seymour Home Collection for Saks, her own line through The Sommerset Group and her latest book “Making Yourself At Home”. Other interests have kept her off the golf course as painting has become a passion. Every weekend she will say, “Will I paint or will I play golf?” Seymour created a list of 25 goals she would like to accomplish before she turns 100; Number 4 is Break 90 in golf.
This was a well written article by Dana White plus the photographs in the article and on the cover were stunning. At 53 Jane is a very beautiful and talented lady and I am sure she will finally get her wish and break 90.
