La Bufadora - Travel to Baja Mexico

One of the neatest side trips we took during our recent trip to Rosarito and Ensanada Mexico was to La Bufadora. La Bufadora (the buffalo snort) is not a quick 10 minute side trip. It will take a bit of effort to get their, but it is so much fun...it is well worth the time.

La Bufadora had many tourists visiting Ensenada, a city located roughly 30 km (20 miles) north of the this marine tourist area. Besides the marine geyser, the are also has various restaurants, souvenir shops, a dive shop, and a small museum. Because of the time of year, most of the tourists were from native Mexico states or just north of the United States border.

The shooting spray of water (which happens every minute or so,with varying degrees of height depending on the tide) is created when ocean waves and air are driven into an underwater cave located in the side of the cliff and the trapped air and water then explode upwards. The shooting water creates an upward-shooting spout, as well as a thunderous noise.

This is the view of the shopping area... which is hanging at the edge of a cliff!

This picture shows the walk down to the viewing area. Deceiving because to get to this point you must walk about 3/4 of a mile down a lane of shops and restaurants.

On our walk to see La Bufadora we passed some interesting sites:

Yes... There is a "Cat In The Hat"!

This artist had a shop full of tiny objects made with melted glass. He was amazing to watch... Such Patience!

Oh... and along with the Mexican candy, drinks and churros... you could get ice cream from a "Thrifty Store". Well not exactly a store but a stand and of course it isn't really Thrifty Ice Cream. It's always fun to see the range of American signs found in Mexico.
