| France | Greece | Italy | Spain Turkey's Mediterranean and Aegean coasts, often referred to as the Turquoise Coast, provide some of the most popular beach destinations in southern Europe. It is best to visit between June and October (after the water has warmed up) but be prepared for the summer holiday stampede if you visit in July or August. These beaches of the Turkish Riviera offer hot sunshine, friendly locals, low prices, and now even topless sunbathing. Ölüdeniz Beach (Blue Lagoon) Located five miles south of Fethiye, this is the most famous beach in Turkey but it is inevitably overcrowded. The famous blue lagoon really is the stuff that dreams are made of. Patara Beach Located fifty miles south of Fethiye, few would disagree this is the best beach in Turkey. Patara is also known as the birthplace of Saint Nicholas yes, Santa Claus was born in Turkey! Çalis Beach Located four miles from Fethiye and six miles from Ölüdeniz, this beach is a family favorite. Cleopatras Beach Located in Alanya, this beach can get crowded because it is a favorite in this resort town. Içmeler Beach Located in Marmaris Bay, this beach boasts a promenade and resort facilities. Iztuzu Beach (Turtle Beach) Located in a breeding ground for loggerhead turtles, this beach is accessible by boat from Dalyan. Kaputas Beach and Mavi Magara (Blue Cave) Located near Kalkan, this tiny sandy beach is a steep 400-steps down from the highway and is swimming distance to the Mavi Magara (Blue Cave) - the largest known sea cave in Turkey. Konyaalti Beach Located in Antalya, this pebble beach is a family favorite. The promenade features playgrounds and a large water park. Ladies Beach Located in Kusadasi, this small but crowded beach was named in the days of segregated beaches. Olimpos Beach Located fifty miles south of Antalya, this quiet beach is also near ancient ruins. Side Beaches Located forty miles east of Antalya, these beaches near ancient ruins are often crowded.
