Preparation - Cream the butter and sugar together. Mix in the beaten eggs, dates and currants. Sift the flour and baking soda together. Add this to the creamed mixture. Stir in the dates and currants. Stir in the rolled oats. Divide the mixture 3 pieces. Shape each piece into a roll of dough, about 1" to 1-1/2" thick. Wrap each roll in waxed paper and refrigerate overnight. Cut the rolls of dough into slices - about 1/4" thick. Lay the slices of dough on lightly greased baking sheets. Bake in a preheated oven at 350º for 12 to 15 minutes. Remove from the cookie sheets to cool on wire racks.
