Delicious Spring Detox Recipes

Spring is definitely in the air and it's time for detoxing again! I'm a huge fan of doing even "good for you things" in the most enjoyable way and detox is a perfect place to start if you're adopting this new attitude as well.

Detoxing doesn't have to be about denying yourself good food, eating only sparse greens and drinking barely palatable concoctions of roots and barks. Detox foods can actually taste better than your average meal and you might find yourself adding them to your regular everyday menu.

Below are some of my favorite detox recipes that I've found scouring the net. Each one is unique and sounds truly delectable. I'll be incorporating each into my daily routine throughout May in order to be cleansed, refreshed, and rejuvenated for when summer begins.

Makes 4-6 servings

2 cups cooked chicken breast (cubed)
1/2 cup Smart Balance mayonnaise
1/2 cup fresh blueberries
1 tablespoon grated fresh orange peel
1 tablespoon chopped red onion
1 tablespoon chopped celery
3 teaspoon Detox spice blend
1 tablespoon chopped or sliced almonds (optional)

Detox Spice Blend:
1/4 teaspoon each: black pepper, ginger root powder, cinnamon, crushed anise seeds, crushed coriander, turmeric powder, turbinado sugar, organic dandelion root, organic lavender buds, parsley flakes.

Add all ingredients to a medium to large mixing bowl (except the blueberries). Mix ingredients thoroughly and then gently fold in the fresh blueberries. Serve as an entree with organic mixed field greens and tomato wedges or serve on whole grain bread with field greens and tomato slices.

Notes:
~You can substitute the Smart Balance mayonnaise with any low-fat mayo or you can use plain, non-fat yogurt.
~ If fresh blueberries are not in season, use frozen thawed blueberries. You may also substitute the blueberries with fresh cranberries.
~ For the spice blend, I used an Ayurvedic spice blend that has most of the spices listed above. It's called Kapha Churna (Stimulating) Gourmet Seasoning and I purchased it online at Mapi.com

1/2 cup V8 V-Fusion Peach Mango (or Acai Mixed Berry) Juice
1/4 cup unsweetened apple juice
15 drops of Detox Drops blend
4-5 ice cubes

Add all ingredients to a cocktail shaker (or covered jar) and gently shake to blend. Pour in martini glass, garnish with fruit slice or olive and sip gleefully.

I also found a very cool video that shows exactly how to make a detox smoothie. Smoothies have become my breakfast of choice and so I'm always in search of different recipes with different functions. This is a really well done video that I'm sure you'll enjoy. Sometimes you just need to see how easy things really are! Detox Smoothie Video.

So I do hope these recipes help you get started cleansing your body and in turn feeling much better and ready for a fabulous summer!

Enjoy!
