Bangs in Hair Fashion

Bangs: a fringe of hair combed or brushed forward over the forehead. You may simply refer to this part of your hairstyle as the fringe. Whether you call it bangs or fringe, this year it is becoming an important part of an up-to-date hairstyle. Many of you haven’t worn them in years. The mere mention of bangs brings back memories of your mother getting out the scissors before school pictures. However, your new stylish bangs don’t have to be a replay of your third grade class photo. Correctly cut and styled, they can be very flattering and sophisticated.

Heavy, blunt bangs are very much in style and make a definite fashion statement. Some hairstyles are meant to show a solid line around the face, however variations are what make a hairstyle uniquely yours. The heavy line may be softened by a slight tapering at the edge.
This can be done is different ways.
  1. Lift the bangs all straight up and trim off a little of the longest strands – not more than ¼ to ½ inch.
  2. Combing the bangs straight down and using the points of your shears, cut very small ^^^^^^ into the edge.
  3. Use fine blending or thinning shears at the edge. Angle the shears up into the hair, not straight across.
The one drawback of heavy bangs is that they often call more attention to themselves than to your beautiful face and even though they land at your eyes, they may draw attention away from them. If they over power you and seem to hide your face, create space to show some forehead between the strands.
This can be done by taking out some of the bulk with a procedure called texturizing.
  1. Use the points of your shears to remove very thin strands of hair.
    Or
  2. Use texturizing or blending shears (pointed up) to remove bulk in a few areas.
After the excess hair is removed, separate the strands with a small amount of pomade.

The exciting thing about today’s fashion is that you don’t have to stick with the ordinary when it comes to bangs.

In this asymmetrical haircut, solid bangs are trimmed short, well above the eyebrow on one side. The short bangs continue across the forehead but are broken up by long individual strands of hair that blend into the longer side of the style.

Create a feminine messy style by scrunching funky waves into your hair, pulling the front forward over one eye. If your hair is straight and won’t scrunch, use large pin curls to create natural looking waves. Find out how to do pin curls, here.
