Welcome to the Astronomy Site. You're invited to come along on a fabulous journey to marvel at the wonders of the universe. Here are some of the things I'm planning to cover on the site:
(1) Black holes, black dwarfs, red dwarfs, red giants, magnetars, neutron stars, quasars and blazars, the big bang, the expanding universe!
(2) Our neighborhood, the Solar System, stretching from the Sun to the Oort Cloud which lies a thousand times further from the sun than Pluto.
(3) Planets around other stars--we call them “exoplanets” or “extrasolar planets”. Did you know that some of them are bigger than Jupiter and circle their suns in as few as four days? We call them “hot Jupiters.”
(4) Meanwhile back on Earth, most of us are curious about people and I'm particularly interested in the often forgotten stories of women in astronomy. There will also be some down-to-earth help in getting started in astronomy and suggestions for choosing astronomy-related gifts .
If you want to join the tour, why not sign up for my weekly astronomy newsletter. It will come out in text format for easy reading on whatever system you use. If you sign up, rest assured that you won't get spam, as Bella doesn't sell or share email addresses. You can also unsubscribe at any time using the link provided at the bottom of each newsletter. (Though I hope you won't want to.)
There are two newsletter sign-up boxes on each page. Please remember to double check your email address before you submit it.
After you sign up, a confirmation notice is sent so that you can check that your spam filter isn't rejecting our mail. If you get the confirmation, you don't need to do anything more.
However if no confirmation arrives within 24 hours, see if you can find it in your junk mail file. In some cases you may simply need to tick that it's “not spam” for the newsletters to get through.
Otherwise, depending on how your email provider works, you'll need to set your filter to accept mail from BellaOnline or add us to your contacts or white list. If it doesn't work the first time, you can also try signing up again.
If you are an AOL or Earthlink user, please request that your ISP does not block emails from BellaOnline.
By the way, how about checking out the astronomy forum? Also if you have suggestions for articles you'd like to see or questions that aren't answered in the subject material, you can contact me. Look at the bottom of any page for forum and contact buttons.
Wishing you clear skies and looking forward to your company.
