The Complete Book of Golf Games

Everybody seems to be looking for games to play while they are playing golf. Women are the most interested as it spices up the game and gives them something extra to work towards. Many of these games are fun and easy to add to your ladies golfing events. I ordered a new book called The Complete Book of Golf Games by Scott Johnston. I found this on Amazon.com when I was ordering another book and thought I could get some more ideas of games to pass on. This book says it is a revised edition.

The cover explains that they feature over 80 great games and tournament formats to add to your ladies golf events. The price was right at $9.60 so anyone who is looking for more games should get this book. It is full of golf trivia, quotes and cartoons to entertain you as you are jotting down some of the games. There are 18 chapters in 95 pages so each chapter takes up just a few pages. The book is small with an unusual cut out shape of a golf ball that extends over the top so this is where the pages numbers are posted.

In the Introduction you find out about the author and how he became addicted to this wonderful game of golf. Within this introduction one will find three quotes and this one I thought was funny. “Golf and sex are the only things you can enjoy without being good at them” by Jimmy Dermaret. You will enjoy the many quotes that are highlighted in every chapter.

In the first chapter on Games of Twosomes, Threesomes & Foursomes will get you started Nassau, Pick Up Sticks and of course the oldie Bingo Bango Bongo. There are a great number of games in this chapter so I am sure you will find something new to try with your next golfing round.

A section of Tournament Formats will surely help you decide on a new game to spring on your next tournament such as the Stableford System, The Chapman System, Scramble, String or Chicago are a few in this chapter. Interesting golf facts “Amazing everyone but himself, Walter Hagen once made a $10.00 bet that he would make a hole-in-one – and he proceeded to knock the ball right into the hole. “The trick is to know when it’s about to happen,” he explained.

If your group is into gambling games you can find a variety of betting games or golf games that don’t require a golf course, even night games or practice green games. If you are new to golf lingo there is a section on different shots such as banana ball, fried egg or worm burner even lingo for people and places. The last chapter is for Games for the Locker Room our gals don’t hang around the locker room but maybe you can pick up some ideas that would work for your group. The cartoons are funny and I loved the golf sayings and fact that you will find throughout the book.

The author is looking for any new games that you may have invented that can be included in another revised edition. If they use your game in the next book you will receive a free copy so send your games to Scott Johnston, Golf Research Dept. Mustang Publishing at P.O. Box 770426 Memphis, TN 38177
