Green Singing Finch

If you would like a bird that sings, but are not interested in a canary, then a Green Singing Finch may be just what you are looking for. The male Green Singer has a lovely little song that is somewhat quieter than a canary and is very pleasant to listen to.

Green Singers are a little larger than many other finches, but are a little smaller than a canary. Their back is an olive/brown colour and their breast is yellow. The female has a ring of dots that looks like a necklace across the front of her neck.

They are very active finches – always on the move. Green Singing Finches are native to central Africa where they inhabit the semi-arid regions of tall scrub and forest.

These birds may fight with their own kind, so it is not recommended that more than one pair be kept together.

The Green Singing Finch is closely related to the Grey Singing Finch, that is native to the same areas in Africa, but is an overall grey colour. The sexes are difficult to determine by sight in the Grey Singer, but their personalities and song are similar, with the Grey Singer having possibly a more delicate song
