About the BellaOnline Birds Editor

Welcome to Birds at Bella Online. My name is Mavis and I love birds - both pet and wild ones.

I can hardly remember any time in my life when birds were not a part of my family. There was Tweety, the canary when I was very young, followed by several budgies, more canaries and some finches. For a few years after moving away from my parentīs home, I didnīt have any birds at all, but after I got my first budgie in my own home thereīs been no looking back. That budgie was soon joined by my first BIG bird - a Cockatiel! Then came a pair of Zebra Finch and when those two had babies I was hooked.

For awhile, I was breeding Budgies, Cockatiels and Lovebirds and had approximately 150 birds at that time. Working full time made the handfeeding difficult and after a few years, I cut my flock down to strictly my pets and found new breeding homes for the breeding birds. That still left me with approximately 30 birds, with some finches, cockatiels, lovebirds and Jewel, the CAG. A Blue and Gold Macaw, named Kia joined the flock a few years later.

In 2006, I ended up in the hospital with extreme breathing problems and was ordered to have all the birds removed from my home before I was released. Although it was very difficult to follow these orders, I had my birds temporarily housed with friends for awhile and finally consented to giving them away. In the end, I had to put my health first and although I kept Jewel, the rest of the birds now have new homes.

Currently, my home consists of Jewel, a Congo African Grey Parrot, and 2 dogs, Dakota and Chester.

Iīm not a veterinarian and will not be able to answer any medical questions, but hopefully we will have a place that will be fun & interesting to come to. If you have any ideas or suggestions to help make this the best bird resource and information page, please e-mail me.
