ABC Good Morning America has just announced the new 2013 cast of "Dancing With the Stars" today. I've been watching this show ever since the very first episode and always get excited when a new season begins. Let Season 17 begin! Shine that glitter ball! The stars are ready!

Ready for the line-up? Here it is:
Actress Valerie Harper, "King of Queens" star Leah Remini, TV personality Jack Osbourne, NFL star Keyshawn Johnson, reality TV star Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi, Singer Christina Milan, "Glee" star Amber Riley, actress Elizabeth Berkley Lauren, comedian Bill Engvall, Disney star Corbin Bleu, actor Brant Daugherty, and science guy Bill Nye.

Some of our favorite choreographers are also returning this season: Derek Hough, Cheryl Burke, Mark Ballas, Karina Smirnoff, Tony Dovolani, and Val Chmerkovskiy. Some new pros are being introduced this year as well.

You can learn more about the celebrities and their professional partners on opening night. The contestants will dance their first routines with their professional partners September 16 at 8:00 pm ET. What will make this season different? I guess we'll find out.

Why is it we're so enthralled with celebrity reality shows? Maybe we just want to see that they're really humans, just like us? Maybe we like to see them have to work hard, sweat, shed tears, and be vulnerable, just like us? How would you feel if this show spotlighted regular people competing in dance, rather than celebrities? Would it have the same intrigue? Probably not. After all, we already know what regular people are like...because it's us! Watching celebrities allows us to imagine what life might be like if we were rich and famous.
