Have you seen or heard about a Diabetes Expo near you? Wonder if you should go? What to expect? Do you think it’s worth the time and trouble even if it’s free?

Well I say yes. I recently attended a Diabetes Expo sponsored by the American Diabetes Association. It was held in a large convention hall filled with plenty of activity and a wealth of information. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes and bring something eat and drink when your blood sugar gets low. However, there is lots of sample of good, low carb food to snack on when your blood sugar bottoms out.

The major booths were sponsored by drug companies. Here you can get information on insulin, meters and other health related issues. Also other major sponsors were drug stores, who provided health personal and free blood glucose meters to help you maintain good sugar control.

Booths are filled with doctors, food booths and an array of gadgets for all diabetics. A sampling includes booths for Dr.Comfort, Juice +, Dr. Bobby Pouriaee, Good Neighbor pharmacy, Icy Diamond Totes (look for a review to come) and way too many to mention. All and all there were over 80 booths full of information and people willing to discuss your diabetic health issues.

To break up the event, there was live music playing by some youth bands. IT was a bright, lively but crowded event. A couple thousand people attended along with all the vendors and medical personnel. Also, you could get tested for A1C, Bone Density, Blood pressure, Blood glucose, body mass index, foot and stroke screening. The testing was all free.

Besides the booths and many vendors the expo offered a multitude of seminars. The program started out with a yoga workout and ended with one. The seminars covered such diverse subjects as nutrition, exercise, cooking demonstrations, dental and foot care along with motivational speakers.

Also, you will find lots of sample products and doctors of every kind. You will find advocacy groups, prevention booths and local services you may not have known existed.

The noise level was very high, along with lots of people. You can also get tests done, along with blood glucose meter giveaways and also knew technology for insulin pump wearers. IT was free so it was worth time and effort to attend.
