Can’t Afford a Picasso? Hurray For Free Art

Most of us can only dream about owning a fine art painting or sculpture.
Luckily, many art related activities in your community or on the Web are free.

The most obvious forms of free art that might be available in your area would be performance art or strangely enough, even graffiti.

Who’s to say that this wouldn’t be the beginning of someone’s career in the arts? We have seen children paint in the style of Jackson Pollack, so anything’s possible.

Some graffiti artists have gained acceptance and notoriety by making it solo, as is the case of the British graffiti artist Bansky.

His work is controversial and has been purchased by actors Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.

Other graffiti artists may choose to join forces with other fellow artists to produce artwork with amazing effects. Realistically, this is one way of making lasting art that can be income producing.

Jonathan White is a photographer and digital artist from New York who collaborated with graffiti artist Chico to produce ‘Colors of the Urban Landscape.’ I particularly like the Eiffel Tower series as they have a certain psychedelic quality.

This past year in London, a Free Art Fair was held and all the art was given away after having been displayed. As a footnote, it was stated on their website that this would be the last year for the free art fair. (Some things don’t last forever).

On a local level, I recommend that you check your newspapers for: free art programs, free art projects for children, free art lessons, and free art appraisals.

The Internet is where you can find free clip art and free e-cards.

So, don’t despair when your favorite painting is purchased by a wealthy individual or institution. You too can create and learn from many free art related programs.

You can own a framed art print of "Graffiti on a Brick Wall, Germany."
