The Hierophant

The Hierophant usually enters our life during the time in which we are seeking understanding in our quest for the meaning of life. Often times, the Hierophant may physically represent a priest, spiritual mentor, teacher or therapist of some sort that offers comfort and assistance during our times of confusion or during appropriate times in which we are needing direction.

Also here we may encounter the inner teacher, our higher self or spiritual essence. The part of ourselves that contains universal knowledge and ancient wisdom. Often times, this is considered the subconscious mind, as well as, the Akashic Records which basically means that everything we have ever experienced or known throughout our many lifetimes is apart of our spiritual essence that can be tapped into and that knowledge can be utilized in the here and now during this incarnation.

Our inner teacher also known as our inner guide, the voice within, our intuition, as well as, various other names. It is that part of ourselves that understands and knows natural and spiritual laws which typically is held within the subconscious mind.

When the Hierophant appears in a spread, it usually denotes changes in our philosophical views and belief systems. During this time frame, there is a great deal of sorting through and discerning the difference between what we have always been led to believe and how we personally view those beliefs. A time of releasing the opinions of others and figuring out exactly what you feel to be true or correct for you individually while discarding that which no longer serves a purpose.

If we are harnessing a ton of old, out-dated belief systems and philosophical viewpoints that do not necessarily reflect our own beliefs then we are filled with a bunch of unnecessary debris that essentially blocks us and as the old adage goes, "A cup that is already full, has no more room." Thereby, releasing all that junk within that's just taking up space and not serving a purpose allows for more beneficial information to be discerned and more positive opportunities to present themselves.

So during this time frame, one may find themselves more drawn towards studying philosophy, spirituality, other belief systems and cultures and come to their own conclusions based upon their own feelings and receptivity to the information available. Basically, it is a time of trying to find one's self and their innate purpose.

So the role of the Hierophant can be indicative of a physical teacher or simply a time in which one becomes more willing to listen to the teacher within to discern their life path and purpose. It's a time of seeking the hidden meaning and mysteries of life through study and reflection.
