Winter Blues

What does a person do when gray skies with rain or snow blankets the area of our great country? We get what is known as Cabin Fever when we find some new outlet to fill our time for when the sunshine and warm weather returns. This may be a hard project to do unless you have several other outlets to fill your indoor activities. As for me I have several things I need to get done but all of them involve driving somewhere to attend a meeting or deliver work to others to work on.

Golf is always part of my schedule with working on several tournaments coming up during the first few months. Our golf season starts in February so we have been planning and thinking of interesting things or clever ideas that are not costly and fun to do. Our first was the Valentine Sweetheart Draw Game that was scheduled last week and now is coming up this Wednesday if sunshine and warmer weather appears.

I am also working on our March event on St. Patrick’s Day with a Lucky Coin Game with lucky holes that count in their score. We are also planning a Green Eggs and Ham Salad for lunch with unusual prizes awarded the lucky winners. Then leads up to our Interclub meeting with neighbor Star Ranch which is a two day affair in April. We are planning a Spring Fever event and working on ideas on how to organize this with the representative from Star Ranch.

This takes us up to our Member/Guest in May called “Swing Away In May” which is being organized by our Pro Shop. We are planning several different things in hopes of getting our membership excited and want to bring several guests to this event. I have to check with the Pro Shop if they are doing the flyers and sign up sheets for this event. We have met several times with our Manager and arranged for the Luncheon so need these little things that need to be done soon.

From all these planning meetings it turns out we have not been able to play golf because of serious rain and small flooding plus cool to cold weather. These conditions are not ideal for a round of golf even if it has been weeks since you last played. I have a brand new Electric golf cart that I am unable to use because of rain and wet golf course.

We will survive but Cabin Fever can set in as gray skies and cold wind can be a determent to a lively day on the course. I am hoping El Nino has run its course and does not hang around all summer but after the heat and drought of last summer I guess we will have to take whatever is coming our way. Plan around it and keep the mind in action as it is the only way to survive Cabin Fever.
