Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution

Parents often complain about the fact that schools educate their kids about healthy eating, but snack and vending machines in the cafeteria offer less than healthy choices. In addition, pizza and fries, while offering a popular option for kids, isn’t always the healthiest option.

Granted, there are many school cafeterias offering healthy meal items, with a treat such as pizza in moderation. However, even some of these "healthy" dishes are cooked in more than enough butter and oil which can quickly decrease the “healthy” factor, day in and day out.

A new television series hopes to tackle this fact, and change eating habits one family and one school at a time. Professional chef Jamie Oliver’s “Food Revolution” TV show debuts on March 21st, 2010 on ABC. Jamie is on a mission to educate the people in Huntington, West Virginia about healthier ways of feeding you and your family. One goal of the show is to educate people about processed and snack foods, as overuse of these items can contribute to obesity. Even if you don’t live in Huntington, I think and hope there will be something educational for everyone watching this show.

I really want this show to live up to the hype. I want to see Jamie Oliver getting people excited about changing their eating habits for the health of their families, and not just because they’re on a TV show.
