Book Review – Timeless Trivia

Timeless Trivia: Hockey Facts That Will Never Be Obsolete is Scott Madore’s attempt to solve the problem hockey fans, especially those that love the facts and statistics that go hand in hand with the sport, have encountered with nearly all trivia and record books – the records usually get broken which makes the books obsolete.

Krissy Brady, Marketing Coordinator for the publisher, Just Joan Marketing Services provided the review copy.

It is very disheartening to go to ones bookshelf only to realize that the book that had been so interesting and full of shining tidbits of fact is no longer accurate. Madore tackles this problem head on with his book and succeeds in giving hockey fans a hefty dose of trivia that can be read and re-read.

Physically the book is simple. The cover design is neat and clean and the type inside is easy to read. The questions are well formed using good grammatical skills and the answers add even more to the reader’s knowledge. It is obvious the author’s love and respect for the game has contributed in making something in which he is genuinely proud.

Criticisms are few. The majority of the questions appear to pertain to the 1990s to the present. While earlier decades are certainly represented, the further back one goes, the less questions there are from that era. It would have been nice to have the mixture be a little more even. Teams seem to be evenly represented, so any readers with a favourite team will have no problem finding questions especially meaningful for them.

Here’s a sample question the reviewer found (and the answer isn’t even going to be revealed!): “In 1988, which Montreal Canadien became the only player ever to record five assists in an NHL All-Star game?” The heart of this question is the fact that the player is the only player to have had five assists in an NHL All-Star game. The “1988” and “Montreal Canadien” are additions to this that are essentially clues as to who pulled off this feat. Therefore, technically, this question could become obsolete since it is possible that there will be another player score five assists in an NHL All-Star game. This is being very literal and this reviewer only found a couple of examples like this.

This book would be a nice addition to any hockey fanatic’s library, particularly if you enjoy trivia and records. You can find out more about the book at timelesstrivia.com, including where it can be purchased. Scott Madore did an excellent job in making Timeless Trivia a book for the ages.
