Pentecost Crafts

Pentecost, or Whitsun as it is sometimes called, is celebrated 50 days and seven sundays after Easter. This day celebrates the decent of the Holy Spirit as a tongue of flame to the Apostles and followers of Christ.

You will need:
-Empty toilet paper rolls
-Red cellophane
-Yellow cellophane
-Orange cellophane
-Popsicle stick
-White Fabric
-Red yarn
-1 1inch white pom pom
-2 10 mm wiggly eyes

To make your Apostles head take the pom pom and trim down one side. The trimmed side will be the face and the untrimmed side will be the hair and beard. You donít want to take to much off so go slowly, remember you can always take more off but you canít add it back on. Glue the two wiggly eyes towards the top of the face side of your pom pom you can draw a mouth and nose with a marker. Glue the back of the pom pom to the top of the toilet paper roll. Finished Apostle

For the clothes you will want to cut out a 10x5 inch piece of white fabric. I found a plain white cotton twin flat sheet works great and is a lot cheaper then buying fabrics. If you are doing this craft with a Sunday school class or a large group a sheet is probably your best bet for, one sheet can make up to 40 Apostles. Something to keep in mind when making your Apostle, the name Whitsun or Whitsunday comes from the fact that the followers of Christ were dressed in white. But, if you do not want to have your Apostles in white regular markers will work to color the sheet. Take and wrap the piece of fabric around the toilet paper roll, crossing in the front. For the belt I used a five inch piece of yarn and just tied it in the front.

To create the flame cut out a piece of the red, yellow and orange cellophane that is about two inches squared. Donít worry if it is not square or exactly two inches because it will look fine you can even make the edges jagged to give it a more life like appearance. Take one corner and gather it together and tape to a popsicle stick. Spread out and crinkle the top of the cellophane so that it resembles a flame. Insert the flame in the tope of the toilet paper roll/Apostle and you are finished.
