Welcome to the Bookclub.
When you see an article with this image, you will know it's a Bookclub recommended selection.
I'll be recommending books on or about Australia, and also books by and about Australians.
To start you off, here are some recommendations:
is a classic novel by Neville Shute. It's been the subject of a movie starring Peter Finch, and a Mini-Series. If you've never read this book, you should do so sooner rather than later. From the harrowing life of a Japanese Prisoner of War, to the Beauty of the Great Barrier Reef, the hardship of the Australan Outback and the civilisation of London, this book will keep you enthralled and will quickly become a favorite.
Nancy Wake - also known as "The White Mouse" is one of Australia's greatest women. Her story reads like an adventure movie - yet it's all true. This books takes you from Nancy's childhood in Austrlia, through to her work with the French Resistance during World War II and beyond.
Garth Nix is one of the new breed of Fantasy Authors to emerge from Australia in the past decade. His writing is vivid and moves quickly, with characters and plots that draw you in and leave you wanting more. |
Happy Reading.
Is there anything that you would particularly like to see an article on? Have you got any questions about Australia that you'd like answered? If so, please e-mail me with your suggestions.
