Halloween Crochet

There are a huge number of great Halloween crochet projects. The best place to start is one of the free crochet pattern directories such as Crochet Pattern Central that offers a wide of projects from Halloween clothes to Halloween themed household accessories.

It is also easy to come up with your own ideas for Halloween.

Pumpkins
Crocheted pumpkins are easy to improvise. They are basically a ball shape and worked in an orange yarn. When the sphere is finished and stuffed, sew a couple of stitches from one end into the middle and draw tight to give the top the slightly squashed shape of a pumpkin.

A stalk and leaf can be crocheted, perhaps by adapting a pattern for a flower leaf. A quick alternative would be to use a pipe cleaner for the stalk and fabric for the leaf. Green felt would work extremely well.

Add a face and you have the perfect Halloween pumpkin accessory. If you are wanting a quick way to add a face why not simply cut two eyes, a triangle for a nose and a jagged mouth from black felt and glue or sew this onto the pumpkin.

A large pumpkin can be popped into a window or used to decorate the outside of the house, however little pumpkins can look great too. A few small pumpkins can be attached to some string and used to decorate trees or hang across the door, very tiny pumpkins can be used as jewelry.

Trick or Treat Caddies
Any number of crocheted bag patterns will adapt well to Halloween use. With appropriate decoration a simple bag can be turned into a Trick or Treat Caddie. Crocheting a bag in black and orange stripes would tie in with the Halloween theme, or a ghostly face or motif could be incorporated into the design. Again, if time is short then why not use felt to decorate the bag. Free clip art on the Internet makes great templates to cut around and is available in a wide range of shapes and styles.

Glow in the Dark Threads and Yarns
Glow in the dark threads offer a ghostly flow to projects. These yarns are typically made from nylon and will glow in the dark for a few hours. Crocheting with these yarns will certainly bring something unusual to the most basic of projects.

Glow in the dark thread can be found in local yarn stores and online. Some online retailers stocking this are:

Woolstock.com
Swicofil.com
Yarn-and.com

Wishing you suitably ghoulishly happy Halloween Crochet!
