In this Skillshare online course, Pattern Design with the New Photoshop Extension Adobe Textile Designer, by Delores Naskrent, you will learn how to use Adobe Textile Designer to create a repeating pattern, several colorways for the pattern and a mill sheet. You will also learn about mockups for print on demand sites.

Delores begins by covering how to download Adobe Textile Designer from the Adobe Prerelease website, as it is still in beta. She also suggests several documents that you will need to download.

Once the plugin is installed, Delores discusses the process of creating a repeat pattern, using the Wrap This Layer feature and the Previewer. Next, she demonstrates how to refine the colors in your pattern with hue and saturation adjustments.

Now it’s time to create the colorways. Delores demonstrates how to use the ATD Colorway palette, set your preference for number of inks and color library and save a Snapshot. The Export Colorway Inks as Layers feature generates a color group.

Next, Delores digs a little deeper into the pattern by experimenting with a few background colors. She also changes a dominant color in the design and tests several color libraries.

Now it’s time to export the colorways for each Snapshot. Delores demonstrates how to use the Export for Production feature with Export Colorway Inks as Layer and Export as Mill Sheet options. She discusses the files exported by the process, including the .csv file, and where to find them. Finally, she demonstrates how to use the .csv file in InDesign to create a mill sheet.

Lastly, Delores discusses how to create mockups for your pattern on various products from clothing to pillows at several print on demand sites, including artofwhere.com and redbubble.com. She also demonstrates how to use Photoshop smart objects in a mockup template purchased at Creative Market.
