I receive many e-mails from people interested in becoming social workers specializing in adoption. While I can’t help the individuals out on that end, it did spark a new features idea for the Adoption site. I’d like to give our readers a glimpse into a day, week or month in the life of a social worker. This new feature article will never reveal personal or identifying information about any of his or her clients. Rather, these articles will serve two purposes.
First, they will give those thinking about adoption (either as birth parents or adoptive parents)a look into adoption from another viewpoint. In some cases, adoption professionals have often been through the adoption process before, giving them a unique perspective from both a personal and professional level.
Second, it will help those interested in working in the adoption field learn more about what this entails. For example, a professional social worker may provide tips on getting a social worker degree, and the steps to take in order to work in the adoption field. Adoption agency professionals could provide a glimpse into the challenges and rewards of working in the adoption field, including steps to take if you want to pursue a career in adoption-related work.
While the bulk of the Adoption site has articles on domestic and international adoption, the increase of e-mails I’ve received about becoming an adoption professional has inspired me to create this new feature. Keep in mind that we do have a fabulous career training site here at Bella Online, with excellent tips on career training. These articles will differ a bit in that they’ll mostly focus on what it’s like to work in the adoption field. And, if so inspired, you can head over to the career training site to learn even more about the best way to begin your potential new career!
Here’s where I need your help. I’d love to hear from you if you work in the adoption field. Similar to the Adoption Agency Spotlight feature I wrote about last week, this feature will spotlight adoption professionals (though again, no personal information about the professionals’ individual cases will be disclosed or even asked about for the article).
Please contact me if you’d like to be in one of the Adoption Professional Spotlight Feature articles, or if you’d like to nominate someone to appear as well.
As always, thank you for your continued interest in the Adoption site here at Bella Online!
