Silent Strangers

Kat Bottaro

They sit in silent synchronicity
at opposite ends of a battered bench
and at the end of a lonely, quiet path
while sharing the foggy haze
that early autumn mornings bring.

Two heads bathed in a soft, silvery sheen
dip occasionally to acknowledge lone travelers;
regally engaging them as if they were chairs
of a grand welcoming committee.
Lucky are those whose day begins this way.
