Autumn at Giant

Linda Barrett

It’s autumn
At the Roslyn Giant
And
the floppy hatted bagger
Pushes the line of shopping carts
Up
The hilly
parking lot.
Cinnamon steeped pine cones
Spice the air
in the store’s foyer.
In Aisle 9,
Halloween candy piles up
Just as Back to School supplies
Become
50% off
Three days into
The new school year.
On a table
In front of the dairy,
Bright, sparkling summer toys
Wear illuminating half price stickers
The supermarket trying to squeeze
Every last cent
Out of them
And it’s Autumn
At the Roslyn Giant.
