Little Whispers

Edward M. Donnelly

I can hear you whisper
to me as I walk these woods alone.
I feel your breath as brilliant gold leaves,
drift peacefully over me.
I reach up to embrace you,
only to feel you slip through my ?ngers like water.
So pure and quiet.
I know it will not last like all memories.
So I stand still, and let you shower me
with glowing, golden leaves, and light.
And I smile at the pure,
blue sky with my arms outstretched.
