Stairs by Albert Rollins

Poetry

Control

Elizabeth Ann Devine

Recently delinquent, trembling and
Tormented
Huddled dirty under stairs
In a barren basement

Clenching teeth together at every
Creak of a board. A filling has come loose
And throbs.

Sometimes, she likes to hear the crunching and
Crackling in her mouth. It is something
She can call upon easily.
Something she can
Control.
