Poetry

Pharaoh of the Marshland

Sue Russell

banished
for unseemly claim to the sun,

into our plebeian hands.
one startled turquoise eye looks back,
trailed by iridescent wings.
royalty come to our common patch of earth,
requires only a shoebox sarcophagus
illumined by our awe.
