Submission Guidelines for Plays

Mused - the BellaOnline Literary Review gladly accepts original, unpublished theatrical plays and screenplays. We look for exceptional writing, with clever and artistic use of dialog, along with engaging plots, character development, pacing and stage/set direction. The gamut from comedy to tragedy is welcome.

Specifics for Your Submissions:

We will review submissions of all size ranges from short intermission briefs to longer TV style screenplays. We do not accept adaptations or musicals.

All works must be original and unpublished, please.

We look forward to reading your personal masterpieces!

Entry Details

Submissions should be limited to one play per submission period of Mused. The maximum length of your submission should not exceed 15,000 words in length.

BellaOnline is a world wide publication read by people of all ages and all cultural backgrounds. Because of that we cannot run any sexual content or profanities.

Be sure to spell check your submission. We expect entries to be polished and in publishable shape - if you have numerous spelling errors in your work, it indicates to us that your work is not yet ready for publication.

Be sure to also check for common typos. If you are writing a contraction of "it is", there is always an apostrophe, "it's". If you are using any other use of "its" there is no apostrophe.

It's misty and tranquil this spring morning; let's go for a stroll along the beach.
Its hue a sickly yellow, the moon faded in and out of view behind a billowing raincloud.

Please make sure you have full blank lines between each set of dialogue in your play. Start each line with the name of the speaker, and then have their words on the same line. An example would be:

Coyote: I will use this Acme port-o-boxing-glove to smash that road runner into the cliff face when he comes running around that corner.

Road Runner: BEEP BEEP!

Coyote: Curses, foiled again!
