Frugal Low Carb - Dieting on a Budget

Low carb diets are great ways to lose weight - but is it all about filet mignon and lobster tail? Learn how to live a low carb lifestyle on a budget!

Coupons and Specials
Every Sunday, sit down with your local paper. Compare the deals in each local supermarket. Cut coupons and sign up for the supermarket cards. If you make the effort to research, you can save a full 50% or more on your bill by buying what is on sale. Plan your meals around the savings.

Buy in Bulk
We can get chicken wings for 99 cents/pound or better when buying in bulk. Flats of tunafish go on sale all the time, and you don't want to buy the expensive white/albacore for mercury reasons anyway. Stock up on cans of chicken broth, water chestnuts and bean sprouts. Frozen veggies last months.

Buy In Season
Go to your local farmer markets and buy whatever is healthy and in abundance. When the local markets are closed, keep an eye on supermarket specials. There is always SOMETHING in the world that is flooding the market. If you buy with the seasons, you can get food at extremely low prices.

Low Cost Proteins
There are many delicious meats that are inexpensive. Back in the days of Roosevelt, he boasted that there could be a "chicken in every pot" - and in modern times it's considered the cheapest of foods! Get lots of chicken wings, buy chicken, get ground beef and cans of tuna. You could cook with that for months before repeating a recipe.

The Incredible Egg
The egg has been proven to be pretty much a perfect food. Old cholesterol myths about it have been dismissed. Eggs are enjoyed in every culture, at every meal. Make omelets for breakfast. Egg salad for lunch. Quiche or souffle for dinner. Devilled eggs as a snack!

Think Outside the Box
The whole reason you became unhealthy before was because you followed the TV-advertising system of eating. Instead, be creative. Eat scrambled eggs for dinner if you want to. Have a burger for breakfast. There's no reason to buy expensive processed foods at all. There are so many fresh foods out there that are perfectly low carb that you can be full of delicious food every day without breaking the bank! In fact most people find that low carb is far CHEAPER than a high carb diet, because you are now eating fresh, seasonal food that is really delicious and good for you too.
