Chapter Five - The March of the Scourge
OK, early the next morning Arthas and Jaina approach Hearthglen. There's trouble. Jaina runs to get help. You see the poisoned grain and realize the town is sick. There's a Mantel of Intelligence +3 in town. You have to survive 30 minutes until help arrives. And they're serious, even if there are hordes of enemies in your camp at that 30 minute mark, a cinematic starts and you win. So just hold out.
First, mine tons of gold with lots of peons. Put up 2 more towers to the left and be sure both upgrade to be able to fight! Then build another two to the northwest. Those are where the attacks will come from.
Now you'll have little forays against you but you might as well explore. Just leave a few troops back home and take the rest (and keep building more). Some villagers to the south are injured. Ah well. A few monsters in the lower center area. Avoid the far lower left and the exact middle. Both of those have large monster collections that you aren't ready for yet.
At around 21 minutes left, a caravan is spotted that you hvae to destroy. Send most of your people northwest through the merlocs to get to the top northwest corner. You'll find a healing spring there with ogres. You'll get gauntlets of ogre strength +3 when you kill them.
Shortly the caravan will get there. Kill them all, it's not too hard. YOu get a medallion of courage for +4 to your strength and intelligence, plus a scroll of town portal which of course would zap you back to town. If you explore to the northeast now, that town is quite safe.
Finally near the end there is the traditional giant rush on your town, but if you stay near your towers and keep them repaired, it's easy to hold off until help arrives at exactly 0:00.
