Tostitos Multigrain Chips

I find it very encouraging that major chip brands are coming out with healthier versions of their chips. Tostitos has a new multigrain chip offering that is 0g trans fats and 16g net carbs.

Now you might say to yourself, regular Tostitos is 18g net carbs. Just how much are we saving here? But you have to look at the whole picture. The regular ones have 1g of fiber. These in comparison have 2g of fiber. They are slowly, steadily marching in a good direction. We have to give them encouragement when they do :) It's better to move in the right direction than in the wrong one!

How do they taste? These are *awesome*. A great rich flavor, perfect chips, great texture, delicious, nutritious. There is really no reason to have "regular" Tostitos when these are out there. I've had them with salsa, with cheese dip, you name it. These go right on the table for friends and family. It's not "odd diet food". It is really tasty, yummy snack food.

Now I do have to caveat that this is a SNACK, treat food. While it is multigrain, this isn't quite a healthy meal :) It has 8g of total fat with 1g of saturated fat. It has 150 calories. there is 135mg of sodium.

But compared with most junk foods you're doing pretty well. There is no cholesterol, 2g of protein, and a smattering of vitamins (2% iron, 2% calcium etc). If you were just going to chow down on candy or something, you're at least getting some basic food stuff in here.

It gets better of course based on what you eat these with. If you eat them with a salsa, you're taking in tomatoes and green peppers. A cheese sauce gets you some nice calcium. So you can do reasonably well if you eat these in moderation.

So if you're having a sports party and looking for something to serve, I would definitely go with these over any basic corn or potato chip. Think up some tasty dips to serve with it. Eat them in moderation along with other healthy items. Keep your diet lively so that you can stick with it long term!

Well recommended for the chip lover.
