Atkins Advantage Bars

Atkins bars have undergone many changes over the years. I admit I really disliked some of their earlier offerings - but this latest group is quite tasty!

I normally had resisted getting Atkins bars because they were expensive and also my experience with them had been pretty poor. However, this past trip to the supermarket, I saw they had a new set of packages and thought I should give them another try, just to see.

The almond brownie bar was indeed rich and fudge-like, with thin slivers of almond which are more a texture-add than a real almond flavor. Which is fine by me, as I'm not a huge fan of almonds. It uses Splenda as a sweetener. We did notice a funny aftertaste in the bar - because we've had many other Splenda foods without any aftertaste at all, it must have something to do with one of the other ingredients.

In addition to almond brownie, they have chocolate mocha crunch, chocolate coconut and cookies'n creme. We'll be trying those over the next few days.

At $2.50 a bar at our local supermarket, this is a rather expensive way to snack. On the Atkins Website you can get them for $32 plus $8 shipping for a box of 15 bars. That's $2.66 each. So your best bet if you really want these is to grab a few at your local shop and see if you like them!
